Things seem unclear...

"It is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." (Philippians 2:13)

Some days trusting God is easy. But today is not one of them. It has been full of moments when I wonder if He really does hear my cries. Does He know my heart is hurting? Does He hear the cries and questions of another? Does He remember what He spoke to my heart? How will this all play out? I'm begging for the goodness of His loving hands to play out quickly...but His reply is this..."be still and know that I am God." I must trust. Trust that if I continue to rest in Him and do what He so clearly spoke to me, that He will let me know if that is not the direction He wants to move in...that He is God and will do everything to reveal His will to me...I just have to go after it.

They will originate in our will; we shall feel as though we wanted to do so and so, not as though we must. I will trust in the faithfulness of God. That His will for my life will become the desire of my heart.

My precious niece is 2 months old! I can't believe how much she has grown and changed in such a short time. My favorite, though, is that she sees me now! She recognizes my voice and melts my heart everytime she gazes at me with those big eyes. My heart is overjoyed and I just tear up thinking about how much I love this precious baby girl who grunts at me! And I think she actually likes the camera...

From freezing to fire...what a holiday!

What a wonderful holiday I've had! Getting to see lots of friends, family, Christmas lights and movies, eating lots of yummy food and being off work for almost 2 weeks!
I had all my 8th grade girls over for a Christmas party, went to a few parties, watched Elf 3 or 4 times, went driving around Yukon looking at Christmas lights and made Rick, Bridget and Eric get out in the FREEZING cold for a photo, experienced my first Christmas with a boyfriend(and it was wonderful!), helped my mom bake lots of goodies, decorated Christmas cookies, had the entire fam at my parents house for Christmas, went to the movies on Christmas day, shopped the day after, celebrated Rick's birthday, bought a converter box for my tv, and today caught an oven mit on fire...while it was on my hand! Good times :)

My favorite time of year

Beginning the week of Thanksgiving, something exciting is ignited in me. Something that makes me feel warm and cozy...the joy that arrives with my favorite holiday season, from Turkey day to Christmas! I enjoy everything about this season: seeing my family so much, all the red, decorating the Christmas tree and then sitting in a cozy living room to enjoy its beauty, drinking hot chocolate, wearing flannel pjs, Christmas lights everywhere, people filled with excitment, Christmas music, and watching fun Christmas shows on tv. Like now. I'm watching the lighting of the Christmas tree in NYC on tv, baking pumpkin cookies for our ladies Christmas lunch tomorrow while waiting on Rick to come over for dinner.

The beginning of all the fun was our wonderful Thanksgiving! I had 3 this year! I went to Covington with Rick for his fam Thanksgiving, then we had my family in Salina. Then on Thanksgiving day, I cooked my first turkey and had a wonderful meal at my brother's house with him, his beautiful wife and new baby girl, and my parents. Here are some photos of all the fun... my cute Papa and my cousins, Laura and Kaitlyn...

I spent Sunday afternoon hanging out with the Sage family down in the Paseo. I had so much fun getting to photograph them! The kids were really good sports despite the fact it was about 80 degrees on a November afternoon and they were stuck wearing sweaters for family pictures! I spent an hour in line to vote this morning. As I stood there, inching my way to the door I had so many thoughts crossing my mind...

"Glad I wore my jacket"
"What a waste it was for me to curl my hair this morning, I sure wish the wind would stop blowing."
"Are the people behind me dating or do they just work together?"
"Hey, there's Clint"
"Is my vote really even worth me standing here in line or am I just here to get a sticker on my shirt and a hair do that looks like i didn't even try this morning..."

But then I started thinking about what a neat opportunity I have to be able to vote in this election. It seems different than others. It seems like more than just a political election, but one that seems to be stirring the hearts of believers. What an exciting time to see what the Lord has planned! I encourage you to vote if you haven't already!

Fabulous Fall

I love this time of year. When the leaves start changing to beautiful shades of red and yellow, when the air outside is so cool and crisp. Life seems cozy. Blankets get pulled out, warm pumpkin and cinnamon smelling candles are burned, and the oven is put to work!

One of my favorite things about fall is a really good pumpkin pie. So the other night, while my roomies carved pumpkins, I baked my very first pumpkin pie! It turned out great and was very tasty with cool whip on top! We also baked pumpkin seeds, which also turned out pretty yummy.

We also had Valerie's baby shower last weekend... Kaydence Layne comes in less than a month!!

fear that creeps

Last night I had to do one of my least favorite things...stay alone in my house. Both my roommates were gone for the night so it was just me. And there is this tiny, yet very disturbing fear that creeps in everytime I stay there alone. I leave porch lights on, check the locks probably a hundred times, and seem to hear those little noises I never think anything about. And I always have a little trouble falling asleep. It's on these nights that I wish Rick's lab, Lucy, was sleeping on my bed.

What is it that causes me to be afraid? Is it being alone? Or is it the darkness? The fear of not being able to see clearly what is going on outside my home. As it gets darker my uneasiness grows. So I turn on the porch light. There's something so comforting about light. It makes clear everything that was once hidden. I yearn for that light. To be at peace with my surroundings.

Maybe I need a nightlight.

My sister-in-law, Valerie, has been encouraging me for the past couple of years to enter some of my photography in the fair. Well, this year I finally got the application turned in before the deadline! And now I have a 1st place photo!
